Return to Space: an elon musk escapade

 Return to Space (Netflix)

Return to Space on Netflix follows Elon Musk and his company SpaceX on a two-decade-long journey to launch astronauts into space on American soil. I remember when this was actually happening, and the documentary provides a ton more inside perspective. Elon Musk himself has become such a big name, and definitely a controversial one through the years, and seeing him so passionate about space travel was interesting. He really emphasized that eventually humans will have to live somewhere other than Earth, and he views his launch as the first step into exploring ways of achieving living outside of Earth.

I thought that the design of the spacecraft was definitely modernized and you could tell that Elon Musk's branding was all over it. The way he designs his cars, projects, etc. all have a super sleek, shiny, modern look to them, which the spacecraft imitates. The black and white and sleek interior eliminates the older looks of spacecraft that showed more of the mechanical body of the ship.

I think that the documentary did a good job of depicting the trial-and-error process of launching a spaceship. One of the main things that SpaceX was trying to do was reuse their orbital boosters, which meant that they had to land the rockets back down on a perfectly placed target instead of randomly having them fall somewhere in the ocean. This portion helped add the suspense and excitement of the film, which kept me entertained. With such high risks involved, space launches and anything involving spacecraft is definitely an exciting watch.

  1. this is a great review amalia! i do not like elon musk that much because he uses child labor and has a mildly off putting look on his face all the time, but maybe I will watch this documentary now because of your fabulous writing on the film!
