Ghislaine Maxwell: Filthy Rich

 Ghislaine Maxwell: Filthy Rich (Netflix)

The Ghislaine Maxwell documentary is a continuation of the Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich docuseries that appeared on Netflix in May of 2020. I watched the Epstein one earlier this year and when I saw the Maxwell documentary on Netflix I thought I would give it a watch. Keep in mind this documentary covers child sex trafficking and other similar topics.

The Jeffrey Epstein case has been in the public eye for the past couple of years, and although it took a ridiculous amount of time to actually arrest him and prove that he was guilty of child trafficking and underage sexual engagements with minors, everyone agrees that he is guilty. It is also fairly well known that Ghislaine Maxwell was the orchestrator of his trafficking system, which leads some people to consider her to be worse than Epstein. Whether or not this is true I think is definitely still up for debate, but what her documentary does well gives insight into their personalities to help you understand their dynamic as a couple.

The documentary provides a lot of background on her life and her relationship with her father, later insinuating that Ghislaine's relationship with Jeffrey was a way for her to replace the one she had with her father after he passed. I thought they did a good job of explaining this without making excuses for her behavior and posing it as more of an observation of her character. Ghislaine came from an extremely affluent family in Britain, and her connections with British royalty and other incredibly powerful people are what led her to be such a successful socialite.

The documentary also cuts back and forth between Ghisline's personal story and the story of several victims named in the case against Ghislaine. This is similar to the Jeffrey docuseries as it follows almost two separate storylines, showing the police investigations in between. Having the survivors share their stories is a powerful addition to the documentary and helps you understand the reality and vast devastation Jeffrey and Ghislaine caused to so many individual people and families.

recommend: YES --> there are a lot of sensitive topics included, so I would be cautious
